Good morning, hope you’ve had an awesome week!

Here are a couple of cool reads & the latest on Sam’s trial:

THE MUSIC RESET
So Who Owns The Song I Created with A.I.?

Hello my music creators & tech heads, let's get right into this thorny topic: Who's calling the shots when you use A.I. to help create your next musical masterpiece?

The A.I. Composer Dilemma

A.I. software showed up seemingly out of the blue and has left everyone in the music industry dumbfounded and scratching their heads. These virtual composers are putting out original tracks, that in some cases mimic famous artists, producers and musicians' styles, but they do this by collecting melodies and rhythms from countless sources to make something new.

These A.I. composers, well, they "learn" by munching on existing music. For example they could binge on a Spotify playlist, and then make a song or beat from the sounds and musical data of the playlist. Some argue that the AI should need permission before training on intellectual property, but on the other hand, isn’t that what we do as music creators anyway? I mean everyone has an influence that inspires them to create something new, right? So I guess the question is, what is AI training? Copyright infringement or “Inspiration”?

Well musicians and labels are torn as well. Some claim A.I. is swiping intellectual property faster than a sweet tooth kid in a candy store. In fact Universal Music Group gave Spotify and Apple Music a talking to, insisting they block A.I. systems from filching its catalogs. And then there are music producers who see AI as an amazing opportunity. They see it as a cheat code in creating more quality work in less time, especially when they experience creativity blocks. I can’t say I blame them.

A.I. vs. Copyright Law ⚖️

Legal experts are circling, too. Is it fair use, like quoting a movie to critique it? Or is it more of a "data heist"? The old copyright rules are definitely not be up to the task. Some are suggesting a "fair learning" standard, but courts are yet to accept this notion.

Here's the burning question: If A.I. lends a hand in your chart-topping track, who's the real composer here – you alone or you and the algorithm? As A.I. becomes more of a creative partner to musicians and producers, we're in for an interesting time trying to figure out what’s what!

As far as I’m concerned, this is just another tool to help creatives become better at what they do. So they might as well take advantage of it, as it is fast becoming a new way to make some amazing music!

My last thought here is, maybe the powers that be enact a blanket license for AI service providers to get permission to use musical works, that may satisfy labels and rights holders as well as creators and everyone makes money! but hey what do I know? I’m not in charge at the US Copyright Office…. I’ll tell you this though, as the digital curtain lifts, the music industry is quickly discovering that A.I. isn't just a passing fad – This is soon to be the Headliner.

THE CRYPTO RESET
SBF Fraud Trial Update: Testimony Continues Amid Explosive Claims

It's Friday morning in Manhattan, and things are already looking dim for old Sammy. The focus remains on SBF's ex-girlfriend, Caroline Ellison, who is delivering her third day of damming testimony against him.

Ellison took the stand and made some crazy revelations about Sam, who stands accused of criminal fraud in the wake of FTX's collapse in November 2022. During her testimony, Ellison claimed that Sam believed that bending the rules was sometimes necessary for the "greater good." 🤦🏻‍♂️

Get this….. Here’s Sam’s rule bending plan in action.

In 2021 they had 1 billion dollars frozen by the Chinese government that were held at Huobi and OKX exchanges. This was his genius “Greater Good” Plan according to Ellison

  1. Try to work with attorneys to negotiate with Chinese government to get their funds back. (Ok seems reasonable)

  2. Use wallets that belong to “Thai prostitutes” to attempt to get their money….. (Say WHAT? You gotta be joking right?).

  3. Hail Mary attempt and bribe Chinese officials with 150 Million dollars (Sam goes for the win! The Rule Bending Champion!!!) 🏆

The heart of the allegations against Sam is the accusation that he stole over $8 billion in user funds from FTX to cover losses at his hedge fund, Alameda Research.

Ellison faced a cross-examination by SBF's defense attorney, Mark Cohen. The focus mainly around Ellison's financial strategies and accounting practices while managing Alameda Research. Cohen insinuated that Ellison should have employed better risk-reduction strategies for Alameda's financial bets, implying that she had made significant mistakes. But, Ellison maintained that it was Sam who had the final say in those decisions, such as repaying lenders with over $8 billion of FTX user funds.

In my humble opinion……… Sam is screwed, I mean this is all the defense can come up with? I think Sam will be heading to the Extended Stay Resort after this trial is over….

You can’t make this stuff up! SMH

Stay tuned for more updates as this high-stakes courtroom drama unfolds on this last day of the week!

THE TECH RESET
A.I. Robotics & The Future Of Labor

In this ever-advancing age of automation, robotics and A.I., concerns about the future of labor have been surfacing. Some think these technologies could displace human workers. Historically, when new technologies emerged, like the steam engine, industrial robots, and computers, similar anxieties seemed to arise. But somehow, the economic growth continued, and new jobs were created.

But, the current wave of automation might be a different story. AI and robotics have reached unprecedented levels of complexity and accuracy, allowing them to perform both physical and cognitive tasks. Machines can now learn from their environment, make decisions, and perform physical tasks. For instance, self-driving cars like Teslas can process data to make driving decisions, potentially displacing human drivers. AI is also encroaching on traditionally skilled white-collar tasks, from diagnosing diseases to analyzing financial statements and law interpretations.

The share of the economic pie to labor is declining, while the share to capital is increasing, this is leading to a smaller number of high-wage earners benefitting more from a shrinking labor share. So AI and robotics replacing jobs could exacerbate this trend dramatically.

The impact of robotics and A.I. on labor is a subject of study in real time, but researchers predict that almost all occupations will have some tasks that can be replaced by technology. Workers in various fields will interact with AI applications, necessitating new skills. Workers who can effectively collaborate with A.I. and perform associated tasks will be more valued in the job market, potentially exacerbating inequality.

Addressing these challenges requires a reevaluation of everything concerning labor, as these technologies could disrupt blue-collar and white-collar jobs across multiple industries. At this early stage of A.I. adoption, managers are becoming increasingly aware of issues related to workplace safety, data privacy, and ethics, prompting a delay in A.I. adoption. But they can only hold back the adoption for so long, because the businesses that are late in this adoption, may not be around in a few years.

As robotics and A.I. redefine the workforce, a commitment to integral human development is crucial to ensure that people are not reduced to mere functions, instead maintaining their dignity and value in this new world.
